Application Wire harness assembly
Wire harness assembly automation starts with data from the board.
Routing wires, pressing them into holders, taping: at the form board, hands work by feel. Taktil records this work, including the force at the fingertips, and turns it into training data for the robots meant to take it over.
Why harnesses are still built by hand.
Preparing the single wire is automated in many plants: cutting, stripping, crimping. The harness itself, however, is still mostly assembled by hand.
The reason is the material. Wires are flexible, come in different gauges and lengths, and every variant lies a little differently on the board. A robot working here has to know how hard it may pull and when a wire is seated in its holder. A camera image does not show exactly that.
The tasks at the form board.
- 01RoutingThe wire is guided along the forks with light tension so it lies straight.
- 02Pressing into holdersA short push, then the wire slips into the clip. The force signal shows when it is seated.
- 03Connector matingThe push, the click, the check. Success lives in the force curve, not in the image.
- 04TapingWrapping tape around a bundle, keeping it tight, tearing it off. Both hands work at the same time.
- 05Second attemptsA wire slips out, a connector sits crooked. Live production supplies these moments on its own.
What robotics teams receive.
Skilled workers at partner plants volunteer to wear a capture kit during normal production. It records, all synchronized:
- 01Tactile and force signals at the fingertips
- 02Full hand and finger pose
- 03First-person and wrist video
- 04Action labels, time-aligned and quality-checked

For plants with wire harness assembly.
We are onboarding our first partner plants in Europe and Latin America. Partners receive a share of the value their data creates, their own copy of the data, and an automation study for their line.
Participation is voluntary with opt-out at any time, and data is never used to assess individual performance.
